About this deal

Frankie Best Hates Quests is a love letter to the great sci-fi/fantasy epic novels, especially Tolkien. She knows that there is nothing more important in life than being connected to your friends with WiFi and a smartphone, and she knows that little brothers who talk about orcs and goblins all the time are totally lame. As the most iconic and well-known children’s book brand in the UK today, we are always on the lookout for innovative ways to tell the world’s favourite stories and for brilliant new debut talent and brands that connect with today’s young readers, from newborn up to twelve years old.

Before they know it, Frankie and Joel find themselves embarking on a quest (it’s not a quest, Frankie hates quests) to rescue their grandad. He's a lovely boy and tried hard for his granny and it was a successful start, completed by his mum, my daughter.

Not only is she stuck at Grandad’s for a whole week while her parents swan off to the arctic, now she’s discovered that there’s NO WIFI anywhere in the house!

To have any chance of rescuing her grandfather, Frankie has to get up to speed, quickly, with all the rules and lore of the genre (luckily, Joel is usually on hand to help, in a very annoying way). Lots of fun lines but a few too many 'aha' plot moments and too many characters (always in groups of five). However, please be aware that it uses a YouTube player and that you should check your school’s permissions to ensure that YouTube isn’t blocked. She's stuck at Grandad's with her annoyingly nerdy brother Joel for a whole week while her parents swan off to the Arctic. Frankie used to think it was cool too, until she started secondary school and it somehow became not cool any more. The content and ambition of the show remains the same: to give every pupil the opportunity to engage with authors and illustrators in their own classroom using the power of the internet. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Answering all the important questions you never knew you had, like where fairytale characters go to the toilet, this book offers plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. That's where he met Greg James, and in between messing about on the airwaves the pair created the bestselling Kid Normal series. Smiths world building was astoundingly magical and throughout every chapter I found myself transported to Parralelia and I am now a firm member of the fellowship of the bacon roll.
