About this deal

Some nonbasic lands have been given this slot, such as the Gates in the Guilds of Ravnica and Ravnica Allegiance and the life-gain taplands in Khans of Tarkir, and the snow duals in Kaldheim. Invasion lands are odd, again like Masques, they seem a bit disjointed however I do like a lot more of them individually a lot more keeping it off the lowest tiers of land sets.

Equal parts whimsy and fantasy, this land could be just at home in Alela, Artful Provocateur as it would in Zur, the Enchanter.Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths was the first set to feature non-basic lands in a full-art treatment, the showcase Triomes. As such I find that they frame the game and events for me much more directly than the spells which need a little more imagination to appreciate sometimes. These beauties also remind me of Unhinged since they feature so much art on the card that you think it’s a print the first time you see it. Urza's Lands are another somewhat stylized set of lands with potential glimpses of Serra and Phyrexia.

Theros Beyond Death went for something a bit different with just the singly cycle of full art Nyx lands in the main set. For example, cards like Field of Ruin reward both players for having basic lands; a metagame with enough similar cards introduces a strategic liability for players who don't use basic lands. There is a nice flavour in these lands with a before and after for each of three locations per land type. This set brought with it basic lands from some of Magic’s greatest artists, Christopher Rush, Mark Poole, and more!
