Many of the techniques and ideas in this book can be used by themselves, simply as ways to make a conventional garden more productive or earth-friendly. Highlighting why community spaces are so important, the Garden provided a space wherein that individualistic engagement could be transformed into a collective engagement, a communal exchanging of reflections, perspectives, and connections, free from the expectation of turning a profit or maximising online engagement metrics. I went into this book fully expecting the complete hippie experience with "medicinal" herb recommendations and whatnot. Platforms such as Climate in Colour are lauded for their capacity to instantaneously reach an audience at scale – yet, what is often lost in these discussions is that this mass outreach is atomised and individualistic.

TL;DR I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in designing and creating a permaculture or ecological garden of their own. Having said this, cocktails are cheap (€7) so this wasn’t a problem for us and the weather was hot enough in April for us to use the pool so we weren’t too bothered about the hot tub being unavailable.
