About this deal

We pride ourselves in being easily accessible to answer any questions or concerns you may have about the No Nonsense Phonics range of resources – or even just about phonics provision generally. Phonemic awareness, letter formation, oral segmenting, encoding and decoding are featured throughout Books 1 to 8. In 2014, 24% of children failed to leave primary school with level 4 or above in their KS2 assessments in grammar, punctuation and spelling. Much of the writing is outcomes from the teaching sequences so it is also used to show what can be expected from the planning.

Teacher’s Books – one per year for Years 2-6, 1 x USB stick with editable documents and helpful video guidance from the Babcock LDP Primary Literacy team. For each year group in the primary age range there are helpful notes and observations, written in a similar style to STA-produced statutory moderation commentaries. Secondly, we were interested in adopting a systematic synthetic phonics programme which supported children’s early reading but also developed handwriting and spelling – the approach of NNP certainly addresses all of these areas. Performance in this area lags significantly behind that in reading, where only 11% fail to achieve level 4. The learner applies and extends phonics code knowledge, handwriting and new vocabulary, whilst developing language comprehension, via 12 Mini Story pages. No Nonsense Spelling is a complete spelling programme, created by the Babcock LDP Literacy team in response to Devon teachers concerns over implementing the New Curriculum.

Guidance on how to teach the spelling strategies and skills required to meet the New Curriculum requirements.

The children’s confidence has soared using No Nonsense Phonics and this can be seen in both their reading and writing. Written by the Babcock LDP Primary Literacy team, No Nonsense Spelling provides sufficient guidance to implement an effective spelling teaching programme from Year 2 to Year 6. If you wish to book on this course after the course deadline please contact us on 01629 536546 and ask to speak to Sion Denton. Guidance, rather than prescription, is provided on how to teach the strategies, knowledge and skills pupils need to learn. A complete spelling programme designed to meet the needs of the new National Curriculum in a manageable way.

See further information about teaching sequences here and the texts we have written the sequences around. There is a huge push (and rightly so) for strong literacy foundations to be built in the first year of school, but with children entering formal schooling as young as four and half years old, the question is to be asked, “What about the play? Since adopting NNP and PI we have seen a significant increase in our children’s phonic scores, moving from 50% passing the PSC in 2019 to now having 89% on track to pass this year.Earlier texts tend to be more suitable for the beginning of the year while those towards the end of the lists are increasingly complex in either language or concepts, and therefore could be more appropriate towards the end of the year. These are used by schools to support teachers who are moving year groups, to raise and set expectations and to support standardisation, assessment and moderation procedures in school. ie is the largest exporter of books from Ireland currently exporting to approximately 100 countries around the world. This includes: The Five Pillars of Literacy, the Simple View of Reading and Debbie’s two-pronged systematic and incidental phonics teaching approach.
