Description

friends to lovers, surfing, golden retriever mmc, ASL rep, small beach town, no third act breakup, dual pov declan, the male main character, wants to be everything to giana, so he secretly learns sign language to be able to communicate in giana’s language! 🥰 I loved the banter and instant chemistry Declan and Gianna shared. She is such a beautiful soul with an inspiring story of strength.

This book was absolutely adorable. It was cute, swoony and all over gave me the best feels. Declan was an ultimate book boyfriend who took one look at Giana and knew he wanted more. This man even started learning sign language after their first date. He had me giggling like a little school girl with all the moments he was gone for Giana. Declan Parks is a professional surfer who is currently in Orchid City as he is getting rehab on a shoulder injury. When he goes surfing at the start of the book, he finds an injured turtle and wants to save it so takes it to the local Marine Centre. Here is where he meets Giana Cirone. Following their relationship was so heartwarming and I was so happy to see characters communicate! And I can’t forget to mention Pop-Tart the turtle and how they bonded over a turtle…so cute!!

Featured Book

The novel pauses at times to detail Art’s experiences with the white family, his slave friends, and his evolving hate for the English who sent him away from his beloved Ireland. Art’s hate becomes his focus when the old master dies and his heir comes to take over; Art recognizes Blair Stratford-Rice, who had his father hung, and begins plotting how he might seek revenge. Who knew all it would take was an injured turtle and a professional surfer to turn my life upside down?” Today I bring you my review of this heartbreaking tale of a young Irish boy, who was taken away from his home and family in Co. Kerry, and forced to become an indentured slave/servant on an island in the Caribbean. I am literally so gone for Declan Parks. This man is literally perfection. He saved a sea turtle and named it pop-tart, took the time to learn ASL every single day to communicate with his crush, and was a support system for her from the moment he met her. Oh my goodness, someone please give this man the title of best book boyfriend ever please.

Giana is a fierce FMC, who has a sweet and caring personality always putting others first. I love how she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind.Olive Collins grew up in Thurles, Tipperary, and now lives in Kildare. For the last fifteen years, she has worked in advertising in print media and radio. She has always loved the diversity of books and people. She has travelled extensively and still enjoys exploring other cultures and countries. Her inspiration is the ordinary everyday people who feed her little snippets of their lives. It’s the unsaid and gaps in conversation that she finds most valuable. Thank you to Poolbeg Press and LibraryThing Early Reviewers for this ARC ebook of The Tide Between Us by Olive Collins. In the first and, for me, the most powerful part of the book Art O’Neill sets out to record, for the benefit of his children, the story of his life from the time he was transported to Jamaica from Ireland and forced to work as an indentured servant on the Mangrove Plantation. The author vividly depicts the cruelties and privations of the voyage and Art’s sense of unfamiliarity with his new environment. The book also exposes the harsh conditions and savage treatment meted out to slaves on the plantation.

Giana Cirone works as a marine biologist focusing on the research side. She wants to protect all sea creatures from any harm. When she meets Declan, she is surprised he wants to get to know her. I loved how she stood her ground and wanted to communicate with others herself especially when Declan tried to talk on her behalf. Historical tale of inevitable acceptances The story spans 1821 – 1991, switches from Jamaica to Ireland and is told from the perspective of Art and Yseult. How did you ensure that each character and time period has their own distinct voice and presence?Injured pro surfer Declan rescuers an injured turtle and meets Gianna at the vet clinic. They instantly have chemistry and he will do whatever he can to get to spend more time with her. Long ago I learned to stop questioning my beginnings…until my youngest son was born. A slave, who spends fourteen hours a day working on a sugar plantation, has little time for anything apart from servitude.’ The plot is detailed and has twists and turns galore. And the writing is spare and elegant. a really satisfying read.

Olive Collins is an award winning and bestselling historical fiction writer. Olive grew up in Tipperary, Ireland. She has travelled extensively and lived abroad for years. Her first novel, The Memory of Music tells the story of one family during Ireland's most turbulent years, the 1916 uprising and the subsequent War of Independence and Civil War. It is one of the few novels to explore the role of women. It was the winner of the Annie McHale Best Debut and remained in the Bestselling Charts for 3 months. The Tide Between Us is her critically acclaimed second novel. It retraces Ireland's long history with Jamaica. 25% of Jamaicans' claim Irish ancestry, most were deported during colonial times for committing little to no crimes. The Tide Between Us follows the story of one boy, an indentured servant deported to the cane fields of Jamaica and his subsequent generations. This epic novel spans 170 years. Olive is currently working on her third novel which is based on the first Irish pioneers who joined the wagon trails to the American West and became the first homesteaders. Because it came up in such sincere interactions between Dec and Gia, Cali’s constant usage of the book’s title throughout the entire novel, had a wholesome feel to it. Filter. The Tides Between Us: A Small Town Surfer Romance" (Orchid City Book 2) is a captivating and heartwarming tale of love, determination, and the power of the ocean. Giana Cirone's journey, from a world of silence due to her hearing loss to her unwavering dedication to preserving marine life, is truly inspiring. The book beautifully portrays her passion for the ocean and the way it becomes a place of solace and understanding for her. Following Art through his life in Jamaica is a fascinating view into the life of slaves and indentured servants in a place other than the U.S. Getting to see the path his life took while his hateful working relationship with the plantation owners was always there, no matter how much better his life became as he got older, was absorbing. I love seeing the twists and turns in his life, the people he lost, and the family he gained. The plus points of this book are the historic relevance, the descriptions of Jamaica and its culture. However, in some parts the narrative drags on slightly and I found it hard to keep up with every word in print for that took away from the crux of the story. The second part especially has more of a drag and it takes away from the narrative that was built up well in the first half of the book. I come from a time when this little island (Jamaica) annihilated the meagre men, persecuted the brave and defiled the pretty." Declan Parks, the professional surfer, brings an unexpected twist to Giana's life when he arrives in Orchid City with an injured turtle. Their connection is instant and electric, and the chemistry between them is palpable. The author skillfully weaves their growing attraction and the depth of their emotions, making it impossible to put the book down.
