About this deal

It is entirely possible to sit on the Schwinn Airdyne AD8 and casually rotate the legs for an hour while watching television, but it's not really advised. You're better off with a standard recumbent bike, turbo trainer or exercise bike for that sort of thing.

Burn 20 calories as fast as possible, then rest for the remainder of the minute. Repeat at the start of the next minute, for 8 minutes. #2. TABATA An indoor cycle session has never been simpler thanks to the perimeter weighed performance fan for an easy start up and smooth ride, paired with a single stage belt drive system for efficient power transfer, low maintenance and quiet operation. HIIT’s longer-duration brother ‘LISS’ (low-intensity steady-state) is also a great means of training on an air bike, for low-impact exercise that'll supercharge your stamina. By opting for cruiser cardio efforts, you can keep the heart rate low and zone out for anywhere up to 45 minutes to an hour, training your body to deliver oxygen more efficiently to your muscles, boosting endurance, increasing lung capacity and strengthening your heart. The Airdyne Pro also features the first belt drive system on any air bike ever produced. Belt drives have been used for a little while on bicycles with great results, but this is the first time I’ve seen it in this type of application. Basically, rather than using your typical link chain, the bike uses a heavy-duty rubber belt often seen in cars. This allows for a few things:Although pricey, the Airdyne AD8 is still cheaper than the industry-leading AssaultBike Elite, but I think it can more than hold its own in a head-to-head calorie-burning competition. Commercial products: 1 year labour, 2 years electrical parts, 3 years motor and a lifetime in the structure. So, the basic makeup of the bike is metal and plastic, with the majority being aluminum and steel. Everything on the bike seems to be larger than on the Assault & Xebex bikes as well. That’s not to say it takes up a whole lot more foot space, because it doesn’t, but the fan for instance is gigantic. This is most likely a reason for a smoother start and stops compared to bikes in the past. Thanks to the progressive wind resistance and 26 blade performance fan, using this machine is quite literally a breeze. I was unable to test the heart rate display on the AD8 as I tend to use wrist-based heart-rate monitors. The Airdyne AD8 (and less expensive AD6i) allow you to pair with a telemetric Polar compatible 4.5kHz – 5.5kHz chest strap transmitter. The transmitter will automatically pair and once you enter your age you’ll see what zones you need to stay in for ‘fat burn’, ‘aerobic’ and ‘anerobic’ workouts. You can also switch between current, average and max bpm. Again this trumps the Wattbike Classic, which can’t be used with heart rate monitors.

For efficient power transfer, low maintenance, and infinite levels of challenge. 2. Multi-display LCD console If you can’t tell, I’m a fan of the Schwinn Airdyne Pro. There are still things I’d like to see improved. I think it’s too difficult to access the inner workings of the bike for maintenance and although I don’t know if it’s even possible, it would be cool to have quieter bikes. Because of this, the Schwinn Airdyne AD8 comes pre-programmed with several interval training programmes, which range from 20 seconds of sprinting and 10 seconds of rest to more punishing 45 seconds or a minute of working time and slightly longer periods of rest. This is the biggest improvement of the bike over current air bikes and one I would imagine other companies will try and emulate. Classic Tabata is 20 seconds of sprinting, followed by 10 seconds of rest. Repeat for 8 reps, before resting and starting again. #3. PYRAMIDS

The Schwinn Airdyne AD8 Dual Action Air Cycle is another highly recommended unit, boasting brilliant features, such as a detailed onboard computer that features preset interval workouts, as well and the ability to hook up to ANT+ heart rate monitoring devices for more reliable calorie burn and heart rate zone information.

The Schwinn AD8 is built to stand the test of time as well as the rigours of high-intensity training. The first thing I noticed regarding the bike was the overall quality. The Assault Air Bike and XebexAir Bike have brought a new level to air bikes regarding build quality and the AD Pro is right up there with them. Many of the same presets are there such as intervals, time, heart rate, etc. The big differences I noticed were the size and brightness of the AD Pro’s screen being easier on the eyes (especially while sweating) and additional metrics at the top.On the other hand, with the Airdyne, the main priority was comfort, and so it offers multi-position hand grips for a variety of workouts, a highly adjustable, comfortable seat, and a single-stage belt drive that helps the machine run smoothly. Its body is made out of alloy steel, and much like the Assault Airbike, it has a high-resolution display that shows your workout variables; however, it’s much more detailed, giving you information about the watts, distance, time, speed, RPM, heart rate and calories. The Schwinn Airdyne Pro AD8 Bike combines the latest in air resistance technology with unmatched durability and performance, allowing you to reach your full potential in the comfort of your own home. Whether you use it to bring your HIIT workouts to a new level or require the perfect total body cardio workout, the AD8 delivers versatile and challenging workouts. The frame on the AD Pro is a bit longer than other air bikes out there, and I think for good reason. No longer are old people the only ones using air bikes. They’re now being used more than ever in competitions and in serious training environments. This means they take more abuse from people who can push some serious wattage. (Want to see something freaky? Watch Danny Nichols get 300 calories on an Airdyne in under 10 minutes.) Based on what I’ve discussed earlier, the bike is built well and is thus as quiet as a fan bike can be. The fan is larger than that on the Assault and Xebex Air Bikes, but I don’t feel like it added much (maybe a little) more resistance or noise.
