Description

Read The Color Monster book to students. Take another look through the book – noticing the color used to represent each emotion and how the illustrator use texture and imagery to represent each emotion? This project works really well with 5 and 6-year-olds. Some of the examples you will see in this post are from 1st graders. However, we know all elementary-aged children love monster art projects (so really this could work for any age). En bilderbok perfekt för den som vill prata om färger och känslor, i ett! Jag älskar bilderna i boken. De olika komponenterna är utklippta i olika material och färger, som ett stort kreativt pysselprojekt. Det skapar en häftig dimension. Keep encouraging those little ones to be creative and showcase their feelings in their art (and color monster art project). This drawing is great because there really is no wrong way to do it! Most kids will feel successful and proud of their silly (or serious) artworks. It also allows them to be a little silly and what kid doesn’t love that? Start With The Eyes

If your children loved making this color monster drawing, you could consider exploring this topic further. Some suggestions include: writing a storybook adventure about their color monster or setting up a monster art gallery where kids can talk about their feelings and artworks. Read the book, The Color Monster. Use the questions above or your own questions to help facilitate a discussion on how artists use color to express feelings. Step 2: Draw Eyes As a group, we discussed the interesting allocation of colour to the different emotions. Children who are particularly struggling could simply assign themselves a colour for their feeling. However, I wonder how useful this colour allocation is, as some children might have a favourite colour associated with a negative emotion. Don’t worry though, this project is not as serious as it sounds. These fun and easy monster drawings do more than just create monster paintings. Look again at the book, focusing on one emotion at a time. Have each child choose a square from the corresponding pile of colored emotions squares to paste into their jar.

Inside: This free, printable The Color Monster Emotions Activity is a fabulous activity for developing emotional intelligence with children in the early grades. The format of the book allows for a conversation with children about managing their feelings 'putting them into bottles' and discussing why they might be feeling a particular emotion. Use the book, The Color Monster, by Anna Llenas as inspiration for this easy monster craft for young children. The illustrations in this book help open up a whole discussion of feelings and emotions about different children’s experiences. We are long time fans of The Color Monster book by Anna Llena– with it featuring on our 21 Best Books about Feelings and Emotions and 101 Social Skills Books for Kids booklists and one of our earliest Social Emotional Learning posts – 4 Ways to Boost Your Child’s Emotional Intelligence. Children easily gain a better understanding of how artists use color to express emotion during this lesson.
