About this deal

Her work has been published in magazines, and her illustrations and prints have been shown in London galleries and national touring exhibitions. As a teacher, the side questions are really useful in encouraging children to engage with each section of this book and an open discussion. One of the most effective illustrations for me was the one of the boy and his mum joining the line of endless people waiting. The story is heartbreaking, but Milner has matched her illustrations and text perfectly, allowing the reader to get a sense of hope and encouragement. The artists featured in this exhibition are: Jananne Al-Ani, Adrian Berg, Zarina Bhimji, Christine Borland, Mark Boulos, Lisa Cheung, David Connearn, Diana Cumming, Adam Dade, Jimmie Durham, Leila Faithfull, Elsie Few, Buckminster Fuller, Anya Gallaccio, Charles Ginner, Duncan Grant, Lucy Gunning, Graham Gussin, Allan Gwynne-Jones, Sonia Hanney, Mona Hatoum, Emma Kay, John Kippin, Richard Long, Rachel Lowe, Iain MacMillan, Mike Marshall, David Nash, Mariele Neudecker, Winifred Nicholson, Jacques Nimki, Hirsch Perlman, Ingrid Pollard, Kathy Prendergast, Margaret Fisher Prout, David Robbiliard, Claude Rogers, Shimabuku, David Shrigley , Imogen Stidworthy, Rowland Suddaby, Mark Titchner, Gee Vaucher, Hubert Wellington, Rachel Whiteread, Chris Wilson and Richard Woods.

I think this book was beautifully written and illustrated however I think it made my daughter feel ‘funny in her tummy’ because it made her aware of the plight of children less fortunate than herself and therefore I think that in the long term this will be beneficial.

Each of the extension activities is designated a subject focusand is designed to deepen learning in skills and themes. With more than 8,000 works by over 2,000 artists, it can be seen in exhibitions and public displays across the country and beyond.

No one wants to be in their shoes, and no one thinks they'll ever be put in that situation until they find themselves in it. The questions allow readers to reflect on the story and gives them a deeper understanding into the experiences faced by refugees. The story gives children a view into what life is like for a refugee, but also empowers refugee children, encouraging them to not be defined by by their status.Milner's narrative is short, but certainly not sweet, as the unnamed child narrator recounts what their mother has told him and the unusual activities, scenes, sounds and scents that he explores on his way to his new home.
