Description

A Hellblaster Squad of Primaris Space Marines of the Ultramarines Chapter armed with Mark III Belisarius Pattern Plasma Incinerators Combat Squads- Before any models are deployed at the start of the game, a Hellblaster squad containing 10 models may be split into two units, each containing 5 models. All models in the unit may replace their Plasma Incinerator with an Assault Plasma Incinerator: Standard: 24″, Assault 2, S6, AP-4, 1 damage. Supercharge: 24″, Assault 2, S7, AP-4, 2 damage. On a roll of a 1 to hit, the bearer is slain after all this weapon’s shots have been resolved. The Hellblaster Squad is a new addition to the Dark Angels army, and one that will be readily taken to by most players. The Dark Angels’ peference for Plasma weaponry is well represented by this Primaris unit, as they are able to put out a lot of high strength, high AP firepower, with the potential to cause a lot of damage to almost any unit in the enemy army. While this unit is very strong on its own, the addition of some supporting characters and some of the Stratagems that they have access to makes them an incredible unit in the Dark Angels army. Here you can see the size difference between Primaris Marine and an old-school Marines. Quite a difference, but helmets and shoulder guard (and, to some extent, the torso and arms) are the same scale as old Marines and can thus be swapped. Also, note how much taller and bulkier a Plague Marine is in comparison. Poxwalkers are quite large as well, at least as tall as an old Marine and a bit taller as a Cadian Guardsman as well (not shown). Death Watch Kill Team Marines are missing, who should be in between old Marines and Death Guard size because of their beefier and longer Mk8 legs.

The beating heart of the force, these are Blood Angels as you expect them to be. I used a Horus Heresy-style colour palette for these units. The army is built around a core of Intercessors, with the veterans marked out by gold helmets and ornate shoulder pads taken from Forge World’s Horus Heresy range. When we are looking at Dark Angels, they seemed to get a cost increase more in line with the algorithmic points change as described in our review of the overall points changes. We’ve got a very inline point increase with the rest of the factions, so nothing to be too salty about there, thankfully. The Space Marines in a Chapter's fire support squads have a vital role, for they provide covering fire to their battleline and close support brethren.Captain • Lieutenant • Chapter Ancient • Bladeguard Ancient • Company Ancient • Chapter Champion • Company Champion Now, there are two things I want to call special attention to, and that is two units that are staples to Dark Angels lists. Hellblasters and Eliminators. Hellblasters essentially stayed the same in cost as their weapons were moved into the cost of the unit. With the decrease in the cost of Plasma Inceptors, a unit I have been singing the praises of since the last edition, I still can see no reason to ever take these guys over the Inceptors. Their costs vs utility need to be brought into line to ever justify taking Hell Blasters. Finally, Eliminators went up in cost, and honestly, I still have a hard time no taking two or three units of these guys. They work so well with our chapter tactic as well as, with the limit of detachments now, there will be fewer characters floating around. Making snipers a very important tool to have for every single one of our games. When the Adeptus Astartes fight, they employ a set of combat doctrines to eliminate the enemy. After pounding the foe with heavy weapons, warriors advance to lay down a hail of bolter fire before charging forth with chainswords roaring to finish the foe.If every unit from your army has the ADEPTUS ASTARTES keyword (excluding AGENT OF THE IMPERIUM and UNALIGNED units), this unit gains a bonus (see below) depending on which Combat Doctrine is active for your army. During the first battle round, the Devastator Doctrine is active for your army. From the second battle round onwards, at the start of the battle round, you can change which Combat Doctrine is active for your army, as follows: When you select a PSYKER unit to manifest psychic powers, you select one psychic power that unit knows and attempt to manifest it. With the exception of Smite, you cannot attempt to manifest the same psychic power more than once in the same battle round, even with different PSYKER units. The same PSYKER unit cannot attempt to manifest Smite more than once during the same battle round.

So there is definitely some scale creep going on, not only in 40k but in all ranges (Khorne Bloodreavers, WHQ Silver Tower Warpriest, and Blood Bowl Humans towering over the older Empire/Freeguild infantry and even old Marines; Death Watch Kill Team and Mk III plastic Marines slightly taller than old Marines as well; Eldrad, Yvraine and the Visarch taller than Guardians or Dire Avengers; to name a few of the recent releases). Remember, you also have the chance to fire if you kill yourself from an overcharging shot. This gives you even more firepower to use against the enemy army. edition is on the way, and with it a whole raft of changes to the factions of Warhammer 40,000. With the Munitorum Field Manual out in the wild and the Faction FAQs released, now’s a good time to start taking a look at what’s changed for all of our favorite armies. Today, Chase “Gunum” Garber is jumping into his favorite green sons, the Dark Angels.Value-per-model-wise, there isn’t that much of a difference between Know No Fear and Dark Imperium. Know No Fear works as a real starter set for people who haven’t played a tabletop game before, as it contains an introduction campaign (unlike Dark Imperium), a play surface, and a lower entry price level. Plus, the coloured plastic looks nice and makes it easier to tell both forces apart for your first couple of games. Which on the other hand makes Dark Imperium the set for more experienced hobbyists. My goal is to have a fully self-sufficient army of forward ops and fast movers within my Blood Angels collection, which will make for a fantastic Crusade force.
